Dr Susan Gamberg
Educated at McGill University in Montreal, I am a registered psychologist with 19 years of experience working in hospital, university and community settings. I work with adults, older adolescents and couples, and have an integrative and flexible approach to psychotherapy.
Trained in Cognitive-Behavioural therapy, Dialectical Behaviour therapy, Interpersonal therapy, Prolonged Exposure and EMDR, I also draw upon Compassion-focused as well as Mindfulness and Motivational approaches.
My specialties are in the treatment of eating disorders, emotion dysregulation, and trauma, and I have extensive experience working with anxiety and mood disorders, self-injury, identity development and relationship concerns. I take an Emotionally Focused Therapy approach to my work with couples.
I value diversity and have broad training and proficiency in multicultural competencies. I am creative and respectful, and my approach is specifically adapted to the person and the presenting issue at hand.
Aside from clinical work, I also enjoy teaching and was a faculty lecturer at McGill University where I taught courses at the graduate and undergraduate level. Since my arrival in Halifax, I have become affiliated with Dalhousie University through the department of Psychology and Neuroscience and the department of Psychiatry where I supervise students in psychotherapy and research.
