Dr. Barker blends warmth and patience with evidence and experience to conduct expert psychological assessments for children, youth, and adults. He is an Assistant Professor (tenure track) in the Faculty of Education at St. Francis Xavier University where he researches learning disorders (or learning disabilities), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). Dr. Barker also teaches sought-after courses in special education, inclusive education, behavioral interventions, program planning, and academic, cognitive and behavioral assessment.
At CRUX, Dr. Barker provides comprehensive psychological evaluations of children (8-11 years of age), adolescents (12 to 18 years of age) and adults (19 years of age or older). His assessment services are informed by recent evidence, and they provide recommendations to support individuals in meeting their personal goals, as well as accessing educational and vocational supports and accommodations. He specializes in diagnostic and psychoeducational assessments and excels at assessing learning disorders (or learning disabilities), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), mood disorders, and substance use disorders.
Dr. Barker is an advocate for best practices in mental health services and inclusive learning environments. He strongly supports people with diverse backgrounds, and believes everyone is capable of learning and expanding their capacities. Beyond his clinical practice and scientific research, Dr. Barker may often be found leading and volunteering in his community.
