APNS REMINDERS
APNS Membership Renewal – Have you renewed your membership?
Membership renewal began September 1st. There has already been over 350 APNS members respond. Due to the comprehensive database that is in the process of being developed, there are some items that now need to be collected. And this is the best opportunity to update your contact information. Please fill in the jotform and submit it (students please see in the student section of the update). Kathleen will be in contact with you if further information is required. Payments can be made as usual either by calling (902-422-9183) with a credit card number or by sending an e-transfer to admin@apns.ca. On-line Private Practice fees are due. You can find the form on the website. Please make us aware of anything new you would like us to know and also check your APNS online listing about your practice. Payments can be made the same way as they are for membership above.
Child/Adolescent Psychologist Interest Group (CAP-I)
Created and chaired by the amazing Dr. Penny Corkum – in association with APNS – for nearly 20 years. For those who are not familiar, CAP-I is a special interest group comprised of NS psychologists who work with children and adolescents and their families. Typically, CAP-I would meet 3-5 times during the academic year – usually on a Saturday from 10:30am to 12pm – for the purpose of information-sharing and to provide an opportunity to connect with colleagues who work across a range of settings (schools, hospitals, universities, private practices, forensic settings, etc). Most often there is a 30 – 60 minute presentation on a particular topic (past topics have included ethics, executive function, autism, etc.). As well, in the past, attendees have contributed a potluck brunch item to share (e.g., muffins, timbits, fruits, etc.).
Post-pandemic, CAP-I is going to look a little different. First, Penny is officially stepping down and ‘passing the torch’ along to local private practice psychologists, Lindsay Bates (Affinity Specialized Developmental Group Inc.) and Rachel Panton (Erica Baker Psychological Services), the new CAP-I chairs. Penny is a long-time mentor and friend of both Lindsay and Rachel, and they are thrilled to be teaming up to carry on this important endeavour. Another change for CAP-I is the option for virtual meetings via video conferencing – allowing greater CAP-I meeting access to psychologists from across the province.
If you are interested in receiving information around future CAP-I meetings, please do reply to apns@apns.ca and your email will be added to our new CAP-I group email. All NS psychologists are welcome.
February is Psychology Month
February 2024 is fast approaching. We will be having Psychology Jeopardy! again, except there will be a new game each week. As well we will have our daily social media reminders of things to assist in your own wellness. We will also advertise in the member update (for free) any events you are holding for Psychology month. See Brenda Hurdle’s workshop listed below.
