Dr. Julie MacDonald works with children, adolescents and young adults. She integrates best available research evidence and practice guidelines along with a shared understanding of the client and family’s goals. Her primary approaches include Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Habit Reversal Training (HRT), Trauma Focused CBT (TF-CBT), and parenting interventions. Dr. MacDonald is certified in the practice of CBT from the Canadian Association of Cognitive & Behavior Therapies.
Dr. MacDonald has significant experience treating a variety of mental health problems, including; anxiety, mood, difficulty managing emotions, suicidal thinking, behavioural concerns, tourettes/tics, sleep, & selective mutism. She has a particular specialty in the treatment of anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and related disorders such as hair pulling (trichotollmania) and skin picking.
Dr. MacDonald completed her undergraduate studies at CBU and her Masters and PhD from the University of Alberta. She completed her clinical residency at the University of Alberta Hospital. Dr. MacDonald has worked in community mental health for over 20 years and has held leadership positions. She also provides training and consultation to mental health clinicians across NS in such topics as CBT for mood and anxiety, social anxiety and selective mutism, and CBT–ERP for the treatment of OCD.
