I am originally from the Annapolis Valley here in beautiful Nova Scotia. I completed my Master’s and PhD at the University of Windsor in Windsor, ON.
During my time in southern Ontario, I was fortunate enough to work at the Wayne State University Substance Abuse Division in Detroit, Michigan. This practicum involved working with women who were pregnant or post-natal who were struggling with addiction. I completed my doctoral residency at the Memorial University of Newfoundland, with a rotation at the Janeway Children’s Hospital in the inpatient Eating Disorder program.
After my residency, I moved to Sydney, NS, where I became the lead clinician at the Eating Disorder Clinic. This clinic served people from across the lifespan with different eating disorders. After five years in Sydney, I decided it was time to move closer to home. I joined the Addiction Prevention and Treatment (APT) team at CFB Halifax in August 2016 and worked there until joining Perrier Wellness Associates full time in July 2019.
The clinical services that I provide are derived from evidenced-based therapies and techniques, including eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR therapy), cognitive behavioural therapy that is enhanced for eating disorders (CBT-E), cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), motivational interviewing (MI), brief psychodynamic therapy, and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). I have also been trained in Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) for the purposes of helping carers provide more attuned care to their children who have mental health or behavioural problems.
I like to collaborate with clients to determine their goals and needs, and then identify the evidence-based treatment that will help them meet these goals. I have experience providing specialized treatments for depression, anxiety, eating disorders, post-traumatic stress, and addiction, among other areas. I look forward to having an opportunity to help you address ongoing struggles and move forward in your life.
