Miranda is a clinical psychologist who works with adults and couples of all ages, genders, sexual identities, and backgrounds. She works with two broad groups of people. First, Miranda is passionate about helping people through many types of difficult experiences including anxiety, sadness and depression, stressful life events or transitions, low self esteem, identity development, and interpersonal or romantic relationships (e.g., problems with communication, affection, or the larger family unit). Second, she specializes in providing sex therapy to individuals and couples who have concerns about their sex lives (e.g., problems with desire, arousal, erection, or orgasm).
Miranda’s approach involves integrating the best available scientific evidence with her own clinical expertise and each client’s values and preferences. She believes that a strong relationship between therapist and client is the foundation of meaningful change. As such, Miranda takes a genuine, empathic, and open approach to understanding her clients. She views each client as the expert on their own life and each initial session as an opportunity to understand the client’s perspective. Miranda selects evidence-based interventions that fit with the client’s worldview, including interventions from diverse therapeutic frameworks.
Miranda is originally from Newfoundland and was trained in Atlantic Canada (PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of New Brunswick, BA (Honours) in Psychology from Memorial University’s Grenfell Campus). She has specialized training in evidence-based therapy for sexual concerns and dysfunctions. Most importantly though, Miranda is firmly dedicated to continued growth and education – she believes in growing along with (and often because of) her clients.
