A Standing Committee created to coordinate NS Psychologists who have volunteered to provide pro bono post-Disaster services following a major disaster, in accordance with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nova Scotia Department of Health & Wellness. The formal MoU was established in 1998 as a result of the Swiss Air flight 111 crash off the Atlantic coast of Nova Scotia. APNS Psychologists played an important role in dealing with the families of the 229 fatalities.
The Post Disaster Committee’s mandate is to organize and manage the Post Disaster Roster of volunteers and to respond when needed with short-term often on-site psychological first-aid or support.
