Dr. Tamara Speth is a registered clinical psychologist providing virtual assessment and psychotherapy services to adults (19+) across Nova Scotia. Dr. Speth works with individuals facing a variety of challenges including difficult life transitions (e.g., loss of loved ones, changes in relationships, workplace transitions/burnout), anxiety and stress, and trauma/PTSD.
Dr. Speth is trained in a variety of therapeutic approaches with her primary background in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). She emphasizes “second wave” CBT approaches in her work (e.g., Acceptance and Commitment Therapy or “ACT”) which tend to focus to a greater extent on mindfulness, acceptance of difficult thoughts and feelings, and behaving in line with one’s values. Dr. Speth also provides specialized evidence-based treatments for trauma, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) and EMDR.
In her work, Dr. Speth utilizes positive psychology, which focuses on enhancing well-being and personal growth rather than merely alleviating symptoms. This approach helps clients achieve a more fulfilling and meaningful life and can include identifying and leveraging personal strengths, building gratitude, connecting with others, and setting and achieving meaningful goals. Dr. Speth strives to understand clients as whole individuals and is dedicated to creating a safe and welcoming space for clients from all backgrounds.
