Dr. Kim Tan-MacNeill is a child and adolescent clinical psychologist providing assessment and therapy to children and youth in Halifax and the surrounding area.
Background: After completing a PhD at Dalhousie University and a residency in Toronto, ON, Dr. Kim worked with children, teens, and parents at IWK Community Mental Health & Addictions. She has a special affinity for helping neurodiverse children with Autism and/or ADHD and tailoring treatments to their strengths.
Assessment: Dr. Kim provides high-quality, comprehensive diagnostic and psychoeducational assessments for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Learning Disabilities, and giftedness. She is passionate about ensuring that families benefit from assessments and have an easy-to-understand, practical written report.
Therapy: Dr. Kim offers therapy for specific mental health, behavioural, and emotional concerns, including: anxiety, mental health + neurodiversity, sleep problems, tics / Tourette Syndrome, parenting support counselling, grief. Dr. Kim’s style is gentle, creative, and fun, incorporating art, games, and children’s favourite interests. The younger a child is, the more parents can expect to be involved in treatment (for under age 5, Dr. Kim works directly with parents). Her primary treatment approaches are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) and behavioural analysis. By request only, Dr. Kim can provide Christian and faith-based counselling.
